I teach life skills classes. I love this film and use it as an introduction to our unit on selecting a career. The film is fast paced, pretty well edited and fun to watch. I have never had a student fall asleep during this unit, which is a real plus when teaching life skills. I use the accompanying book, and have also made some worksheets to go along and support this film and introduction unit. This is a great resource.Product details

Exciting to read about a young person finding himself and sharing with the world. Now Sean is influencing others with his life experiences. This is a book people of all ages should take the time to read.
boring and lame
Wish I'd done this when I was younger. Maybe when I retire?
Great addition to the DVD! As a teacher, this book gives me a chance to make up an activity sheet the students can complete along with the video.
A little different than books I've bothered with in the past (either sci fi or real science or else applicable directly to my own life), but worth the read. I'm enjoying the feedback. Some of the stories feel a little corn ball, others could use more information, but it's pretty cool to see what this guy did, and how the people around him helped him.
This book was required for my Freshman Seminar course. It was actually a very interesting read. It does not need to be read in order and each job had one or two pages of text along with it. It's very easy to read and sometimes funny. I also got to meet Sean Aiken and see his presentation that goes along with this book. I think the idea behind this is that you don't always know what you want to do and that it's okay. This will not help you in choosing a career, rather it will show you that it is alright to not know exactly what you want.
I got about a third of the way through this book thinking it was just a documented lark for the author. Then he happened to mention that one of his best friends is the guy who did the One Red Paper Clip project. (Google it if you're not familiar.) Suddenly this book seemed to be an account of a pale shadow of his friend's venture.
So at that point all I could think was that he sat around trying to think of something that would top his buddy's adventure with the red paper clip. I completely lost interest then. If the book had been more interesting or insightful, I would have continued, but this was not a book written for that purpose. It seems to have been written solely to prove he could think of something close to as clever as his friend did. Truth? He failed miserably. Not enough insight and some of the most interesting jobs were shortchanged.
